Mainly Music is a national organisation (www.mainlymusic.org.nz)
which is run by volunteers at a local church.
Here at Hope Centre we meet on Wednesdays at 9.30am for half an hour of music, followed by morning tea. Sessions are held during the school term, at 6 Downer St, Lower Hutt.
Adults and caregivers participate in the session, in fact it’s vital they do so, because this encourages the children to enter into the actions and singing. Through our music time we aim to encourage the parent/child bond, have young children appreciate music, improve motor skills, develop spatial awareness and more. We use instruments such as sticks and shakers, sing with and without music and move around. We always include a song or two about God, as we like to encourage people to think about the God part of life.
The
morning tea time provides an opportunity for caregivers to connect
to others, building relationships and breaking the isolation
that can sometimes be felt in this role. We want to honour
parents for who they are and the role they have in life, so we
make the most of celebrating occasions such as Mothers Day,
Fathers Day and all things parent and child
Come along and join in with children, Mums, Dads, Grandparents - all welcome!
